We worked with craft development agency Craftspace and maker/curator Helen Carnac to design this exhibition and all related graphic design. The exhibition opened at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery last month and will tour to 7 galleries across the UK over the next 18 months.
For the identity we customised an existing typeface to create something calligraphic which, being a traditional and labour-intensive lettering process, has a relevance to the themes of the exhibition. This typeface is employed across all printed material and in elements of the exhibition signage.
Printed material included an invitation, poster/flyer, postcard, A2 family activity guide and a 48pp catalogue.
We also designed the layout of the exhibition itself, and designed a series of bespoke plinths to display the work which we had fabricated in powder-coated steel. Interpretation panels and captions were printed onto wood panels.
As part of the project we also designed and developed an interactive piece for maker Rebecca Earley which is exhibited alongside her work.
