Hyperkit is a graphic design studio established in 2001. We work on a diverse range of commissions across various scales and budgets. We create engaging visual communication solutions for a range of clients and industries and our projects encompass art direction, branding, stationery, publications, exhibitions, websites (carrying out all technical development inhouse), packaging and signage systems. Our personal interests, fascinations and self-initiated projects inform our commissioned work.

Our work has been published in various magazines and journals including Grafik, Creative Review, Design Week, Frieze, idFX, The Independent, Wallpaper*, Artlab (Italy), KAK (Russia), Page (Germany), Idea (Japan), Monument (Australia) and Print (USA). We have also been featured in several books including Poster Art (Rotovision, 2007), Graphics Alive (Victionary, 2006), Hidden Track (DGV, 2005), Type Specific (Rotovision, 2005), Taschen’s 1000 Favourite Websites (Taschen, 2002) and Specials (Booth-Clibborn Editions, 2001).

We have been invited to teach and lead workshops at Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Kent Institute of Art and Design, the London School of Economics, the Royal College of Art and the University of Portsmouth, and have given talks on our work at several other institutions.
Brief history
Founded by Kate Sclater and Tim Balaam, Hyperkit grew to a team of four in 2006. Highlighted as ‘ones to watch’ in Creative Review magazine in 2003, we were also profiled over 8 pages in Grafik magazine in 2005 and included in an international survey of Graphic Design in Idea magazine in 2006.

In 2004 we were commissioned by publisher Victionary to author and design a book, Life Size, and in 2007 we mounted an exhibition of our own work at Camberwell College of Arts.

For the last five years we have worked with the Palace of Westminster, notably redesigning their medal collection in 2006 and designing the identity for Big Ben’s 150th anniversary in 2008. We have designed a range of material for Tate Britain’s education department, including their Art Trolley, and have designed the River Cottage Diaries for Bloomsbury Publishing for three consecutive years. In 2007 we won the pitch to design the publicity material for Camden Arts Centre. We have designed and developed more than fifty websites since we were founded.
