Goldsmiths
The Curious Home
Project info

This publication documents six years worth of work by a group of designers based at the Interaction Research Studio at Goldsmiths. Their project involved developing a number of pieces of electronic furniture and home furnishings that added an emotional element to their surroundings. The history tablecloth, for example, records where objects have been placed and glows accordingly. The video window allows you to watch the skyline outside your home via a screen.

To give the project an identity we constructed a typeface, used on the front cover and for exhibition signage, from shapes we found within their technical drawings.

The publication uses three different paper stocks to help define different types of content. Using a colour palette of CMYK the cover is cyan, the workbooks are magenta and the text pages are black on yellow. With over 350 images to include, the pages are laid out using a strict grid, and instead of page numbers dates are used to navigate the book, with the latest project first.
