Wed, 11 Nov 2009 16:43:36 Europe/LondonShop - Enamel Alphabethttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/shop/512 A series of plaques in vitreous enamel featuring different letters and numbers, size 70mm x 115mm. Suggested uses include as a door or house number, a name on a child’s bedroom door, initials on a mantle piece, a memento to mark a special date, a label for a storage box, an oversized keyring... Please download the style book to view each character in each available style. The plaques are available in red, blue or green (please note that the green is the lighter of the two seen in the images on the right).

The plaques that make up the ‘Enamel Alphabet’ series are produced in vitreous enamel. In order to produce the plaques sheet metal is screenprinted with the letter or number using an ink that has been combined with glass particles. These glass particles are then fused to the metal by firing the plaques at temperatures in excess of 800 degrees Celsius. This produces an object which has a hardwearing surface and is both temperature and chemical resistant. Every plaque is unique and any imperfections that may result from their production using this traditional manufacturing technique only add to their character.

Please note that Enamel Alphabet plaques are currently made to order. Thu, 05 Nov 2009 14:32:31 Europe/LondonExhibition - Taking Time: Craft and the Slow Revolutionhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/exhibition/475 We worked with craft development agency Craftspace and maker/curator Helen Carnac to design this exhibition and all related graphic design. The exhibition opened at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery last month and will tour to 7 galleries across the UK over the next 18 months.

For the identity we customised an existing typeface to create something calligraphic which, being a traditional and labour-intensive lettering process, has a relevance to the themes of the exhibition. This typeface is employed across all printed material and in elements of the exhibition signage.

Printed material included an invitation, poster/flyer, postcard, A2 family activity guide and a 48pp catalogue.

We also designed the layout of the exhibition itself, and designed a series of bespoke plinths to display the work which we had fabricated in powder-coated steel. Interpretation panels and captions were printed onto wood panels.

As part of the project we also designed and developed an interactive piece for maker Rebecca Earley which is exhibited alongside her work.
Wed, 28 Oct 2009 12:12:36 Europe/LondonJournal - Common Thread exhibitionhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/journal/ This poster, featured in the Common Thread exhibition, depicts an oversized British stamp (coincidentally a similar proportion to the poster dimensions defined by the curators), representing our enjoyment of sending and receiving things by post.
Fri, 09 Oct 2009 12:10:30 Europe/LondonJournal - House of Propellershttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/journal/ The blue and white pieces in Livia Marin’s new show, now open at House of Propellers, look lovely against our gold typography on the window. Fri, 09 Oct 2009 10:50:41 Europe/LondonWebsite - Royal Society of Literaturehttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/website/429 We have rebranded the Royal Society of Literature which has been in existence for almost 200 years. Hosting events, leading campaigns and making awards, it exists to promote British writing and writers. As part of the project we designed and developed a database-driven website with a bespoke Content Management System to allow staff at the RSL to add and edit content. The site features a wealth of information about the society’s work, including biographies of many fellows, details of awards and of past and forthcoming events. Many events also feature audio files, the archive of which will be constantly added to. There is the ability to purchase the RSL Review as well as to donate and become a member online.

The new brand employs a range of vibrant colours to bring a contemporary feel – these are used across the different sections of the site which follows a clean and simple layout. It is intended that the relaunch will help attract new audiences to the work of the Society, whilst not alienating existing members and supporters.
Thu, 01 Oct 2009 12:14:26 Europe/LondonIdentity - My Cityhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/identity/425 We recently won a five-way pitch to design the identity for this international exhibition project. Entitled My City, the exhibition will coincide with Istanbul’s appointment as European City of Culture and will encourage cultural exchange between Turkey and Europe. Five European artists, including Mark Wallinger from the UK, will be making and displaying work in one of five Turkish cities. In addition, Turkish artists have been invited to exhibit works in some of Europe’s leading cultural venues. We also designed a range of printed material, and designed and developed a database-driven dual-language website. The project was undertaken for the British Council and funded by the EU. Mon, 28 Sep 2009 14:03:36 Europe/LondonIdentity - Royal Society of Literaturehttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/identity/424 We have rebranded the Royal Society of Literature which has been in existence for almost 200 years. Hosting events, leading campaigns and making awards, it exists to promote British writing and writers. We revised its typographic identity – whilst still employing the crest that it has used since its foundation – and designed a range of print material. These use traditional book sizes (such as Imperial Quarto and Crown Octavo) and an offwhite paper stock to give the material more relevance to the subject and its heritage. We also designed and developed a database-driven website with a bespoke Content Management System to allow staff at the RSL to add and edit content. The site features online donations and audio files of many past lectures. Thu, 16 Jul 2009 14:35:40 Europe/LondonPublication - Promotional publicationhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/publication/338 We designed this casebound book to market an exclusive country house. The book is cloth-bound and uses foil-blocking on the spine and blind-embossing on the reverse. It is accompanied by a foil-blocked folder containing plans and location maps.Tue, 14 Jul 2009 10:18:45 Europe/LondonJournal - Grafikhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/journal/0/10Our project for Millennium Models is featured in this month’s Grafik magazine. The publication takes the form of five A2 posters, folded down to A5, collated in a loose cover and bound with an elastic band.

The posters – each printed on a different paper stock – relate to a different aspects of the project and the reverse of the posters include activities for the children to do, such as a quiz and a wordsearch.
Wed, 03 Jun 2009 15:50:40 Europe/LondonPublication - Material Beliefshttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/publication/301 Having worked on the identity, printed material and website in 2007, we were commissioned to design a publication to document the Material Beliefs project. The book documents the entire project in chronological order, from first proposals for funding, through to prototypes.

Elements of the design of the book make reference to Scientific Notebooks which one of the collaborators came across during the project, which feature radiused corners and utilitarian typographic covers. Each notebook has a unique number and is ‘checked-out’ of the lab; inspired by this each Material Beliefs publication is editioned on the spine.

Inside there are four 2-colour sections for each part of the book, and a 4-colour image section. A strict referencing structure is followed throughout the book and reflected through the design.
Wed, 03 Jun 2009 15:42:37 Europe/LondonJournal - Morecambehttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/journal/298 A blustery weekend in the seaside resort of Morecambe. This is produced in gold foil on cards, and gold lettering on the gallery window.
Wed, 20 May 2009 18:00:18 Europe/LondonIdentity - Millennium Modelshttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/identity/295 We rebranded this well-established model-making company. The identity makes use of the two initial letters to create a strong image which can be either printed or cut out.

Materials and processes were considered, in order to be relevant to the work of the firm. Wallets containing a series of project cards are constructed using greyboard and die-cut with the identity allowing a glimpse of what is inside. Greyboard is also used for the business cards, and a grey paper stock for the letterheads and compliment slips. All stationery items are foil-blocked in white.

Each project card features details of a project on the front, and a halftone image of their workshop on the reverse.
Fri, 15 May 2009 11:23:30 Europe/LondonJournal - Grafikhttp://www.hyperkit.co.uk/content/journal/0/20Pete contributes his viewpoint in this month’s Grafik magazine.
