We worked with Tate Publishing on the design of this major monograph of Chila Burman. In 2020 she received the Tate Britain Winter Commission and transformed the front of the building with her neon work, ‘remembering a brave new world’. Her career spans four decades and encompasses a range of media including paintings, prints, collage, installations and video works. Colour and tactility are an important aspect of the book’s design, reflecting the artist’s practice. It features thick cover boards, raised type, a protruding cloth spine and a printed fore edge, with accents of cyan, magenta and yellow throughout. The book brings together her vast body of work, along with writing by Louisa Buck, Deborah Cherry, Linder, Bidisha Mamata, Bakul Patki, Nicole Polonsky, Dorothy Price, Ashwani Sharma and Frances Spalding.
